I have just finished teaching Fear Knot. Wow! What a timely topic. Back in 2010, I asked the Lord to show me every fear that was in my life. It didn’t matter its size, freedom from this destructive foe was paramount. Little did I realize what breaking free from fear of any size would do for my good.
The urban dictionary defines fear as the mind-killer. It is the little-death that brings total obliteration. What a powerful word picture this paints for us. The Lord tells us in John 10:10 that our enemy, the thief, comes to steal, kill, and destroy; I, Jesus, have come that they may have life and have it to the full.
We have an enemy who wants to destroy. One of his lead agents is fear. When you look at all the feelings or adjectives that are associated with this little word, you begin to see that fear is on the front lines in the daily war waged against us.
Fear doesn’t play favorites. As soon as you are born, fear is after you ever so subtly. It is patient. Fear wants you to learn to live with it, alongside you day and night. It waits for moments to really get a hold on your mind and emotions. Fear is a foe that will not relent unless you put it in its place.
Did you know fear is designed to do the following to you?
Fear will paralyze you.
Fear will silence you.
Fear will trap you as if in the corner.
Think about different times when you have responded with any of these actions. Maybe you got a bad health report, you were speechless and scared and allowed your imagination to run wild. It could have been a time you lost income. Fear was there! You felt trapped and frozen. It could be a fear of heights, the middle of the night, or being in small spaces. The list is endless of the times we have felt fear’s grip.
2020 has proven to be a year like no other in our lifetimes. Fear is center-stage and loving its position. Fear has so many people right where he wants them. Trapped! Paralyzed! Quiet!
Most mainstream media outlets have always done a great job of instilling fear. Currently, we are experiencing an onslaught of troubling and not always truthful information. What an interesting time in our history! It is not hard to see who is struggling with fear and who is not.
Fear is a liar! It is designed to get you to believe things that are not totally true. Fear will twist information and get you to respond to a feeling or emotion instead of the facts.
In my personal journey, I have used the tools God has given us and put fear in its place. Its place is not in my presence. It still likes to come by to see if there is a space for it, but I have learned to recognize it and command it leave! I refuse to give audience to fear. Why fear if God is for me and with me!
I encourage you to look within to see if you are being affected by fear. Ask the Lord to show you. If you are, it is really ok. We have all lived with different levels of it. However, fear doesn’t have to remain a way of life. I would be happy to share this class, Fear Knot, with you. Freedom from fear is powerful! I promise you will love the clarity that comes from kicking fear from your life.
