A book like no other, the Word of God is unique. It is not a book to be read from page one to the end. The Bible is to be treasured for its value; it is worth more than gold. Its wisdom is invaluable for those who are searching for truth. This book contains everything needed for a great life.
Some will automatically be outraged by the statements above and that my friend is expected. I am not one to push anything on anyone. Religion forces but relationship shares.
As for the value of the Bible, God speaks for himself when he says, “So shall My word be that goes forth out of My mouth: it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please and purpose, and it shall prosper the thing for which I send it.” Isaiah 55:11.
When I choose to believe God and take him at his word, his promises are a foundation I can firmly stand. I can expect God to uphold his word. He does not lie. Hebrews 6:18 tells us, “So it is impossible for God to lie for we know that his promise and his vow will never change!” Number 23:19 and Titus 1: 2 also echo this point.
If his promises are Yes and So be it (2 Corinthians 1:20), then why would I not want to take God at His Word. As a child of God, one who accepted by faith that Christ’s sacrifice completely forgave us, freed us from every curse, and paid for our complete healing, I should want all that God has for me. I must take God at His Word and believe Him.
Proverbs 30:5 – Every word of God is tried and purified; He is a shield to those who trust and take refuge in Him. Do you believe God’s desire is to shield you from harm? Our responsibility is to trust him and take refuge in Him.
Proverbs 4: 20-22 in The Passion Translation – Listen carefully, my dear child, to everything that I teach you, and pay attention to all that I have to say. Fill your thoughts with my words until they penetrate deep into your spirit. Then, as you unwrap my words, they will impart true life and radiant health into the very core of your being.
God’s word is alive! It will penetrate your flesh (Hebrews 4:12). It is our responsibility to look into God’s Word for ourselves. The Word of God is God speaking to us. He is not wanting us to read chapters a day just to check off a box declaring I did my “Christian Good Deed for the Day.” No, God is wanting us to look at the word deeply. When a sentence or paragraph jumps off the page and catches your attention, stop! Reread that section. Write it down. Take some time to think about it. Talk to God about it and ask Him why is this standing out to you. What are you wanting me to see, God? What are you wanting me to understand?
Spending time pondering along with slowing down to digest what you are reading will produce powerful results.
In Jesus’ life here on earth, he spoke in parables and gave analogies. The Word of God has many analogies for the Bible itself. God is showing us through these parables how beneficial the Word of God is to us.
The Word of God is like bread. Matthew 4:4 – He answered, The scripture says; “Bread alone will not satisfy, but true life is found in every word, which constantly goes forth from God’s mouth.”
1 Peter 2: 2-3 – In the same way that nursing infants cry for milk, you must intensely crave the pure spiritual milk of God’s Word. For this “milk” will cause you to grow into maturity, fully nourished and strong for life especially now that you have had a taste of the goodness of Yahweh and have experienced his kindness.
The word of God is nourishment for our lives both spiritually and physically. Another reference is Hebrews 5:11-14 which references the Word of God like milk to the young believer and meat to the mature.
For your personal study, I am going to list more similies associated with the Word of God. This is not exhaustive but a good place to start. I hope you take some time to look them up and discover how priceless the Word of God can be to each and every day of your life.
