Overflow paints the picture of a flowing substance cascading over a rim. It pours onto the things around it affecting everything in its path. A great question to ask one’s self is what am I overflowing with?
A desire of God is that we overflow his love and character. What I love is that he is not asking you to do this on your own. No, he wants to help! This really is the only way we can be filled with positive healthy overflow.
When we try to do it on our own, we can do well for a season but our own strength and desire normally run out and the frustrations of life begin to be the thing that pours out. Negativity, complaining, sorrow, selfishness, and the list continues.
Now may God, the inspiration and fountain of hope, fill you to overflowing with uncontainable joy and perfect peace as you trust in him. Romans 15:13
God is
God is the fountain of hope!
There are many fountains we can draw from. What the world offers us is endless and quite distracting. God is the fountain we need to draw from. Jesus is the vine and we are the branches. A branch without its vine will wither up so it is with us. Our nourishment comes from our relationship with Jesus. Waking up daily and inviting him into our day, asking him what it is he wants us to accomplish, thanking him along the way because we recognize he is there. Wow! The growth, direction, accomplishment, and protection it provides in a day is outstanding.
You will be filled with uncontainable joy!
You will be filled with perfect peace!
Because you trust God!
Trust is hard for many. Every one of us on the planet has been burned, hurt, forgotten, disappointed, damaged, and the list goes on. We have all had this happen to us multiple times which has conditioned us to not trust, to hold back, question intent, fear rejection yet again.
It’s true when it comes to people, they will let us down. We will live a lifetime of continued disappointments from the people we do life with. However, when our focus is not on the failures of man but the promises of a living God and who He truly is, things change.
“But, I have prayed, I have cried out, and God just does not hear me!”
Psalms 34 is a great chapter that multiple times reminds us that God does hear us. He is eager to save and help us. Read it over and over until you get the revelation of what God is saying.
“But, I cannot see it!”
I challenge you to look a little harder. Change your perspective by pulling back from your situation. List 5 good things to thank God for. He is there. He is moving. But are you really letting him help? Are you giving him room to move? Are you still calling all the shot? Are you making quick and hasty choices?
We all have made those decisions. Moved quickly in our own understanding of a situation or under the pressure of time. If we would really take time to evaluate our actions, we see we never waited on God to do something great.
Yes, this can be terrifying but remember that kind of fear comes from our enemy and it is his way of getting us to keep in the same cycle. The cycles that keep us in the same position year after year.
Do something different if you want a different result. Try the following:
• Pick a time frame.
• Every morning throughout the time frame wake up and say, ‘Good morning, Lord.”
• Invite him into your daily routine. Maybe even ask him to show you what he wants you to do today. You may get thought of something particular to do, write it down and do it.
• Ask him to lead and guide you through the day.
Before you do anything, put your trust totally in God and not
I find that keeping praise and worship music around me keeps me focused on the Lord and brings peace to the atmosphere around me. Try it!
• Keep notes. At the end of the day, write down what happened. Thank him for what you saw him do.
• At the end of your trial period, reflect, look through your notes and see how staying a bit more plugged into the Lord changed your attitude, circumstances, and atmosphere over the course of time. What changes did you see? Did anyone notice a change in you? Did your overflow change?
Trust the Lord!
He is trustworthy!
THANK YOU!
